How 2050 will look like (part 2)

2050 – The year in which the world will be either saved or on the verge of being saved. Environmental challenges will not become a subject to fade from day to day, as it will always be an issue to be addressed. And it will most certainly be a subject of great importance in 2050 as well. But even so, many people do not manage to see the psychological factor of the “saving the world” mission. Either if it is a matter of what causes different problems or what the consequences of such problems are, it all is a matter of humans. Humans, by their behavior, by their attitudes toward sensible subjects, by their choices regarding their well-being and their interactions with other humans. And it all goes to a point in psychology, regarding the conservation, this meaning that people will assume that everything will remain as they know it and without undergoing different changes. Conservation psychology, as it is explained, concentrates on the relationships between human beings and nature, adding a certain focus on how the conservation of the nature can be obtained and even encouraged.

I consider that this field will flourish and have a positive effect on human beings, as it has the possibility to make societies sustainable from an ecological point of view. What is the most important element here is to create somehow a change in the behavior of humans, and not on a short amount of time. Talking about behavior, most people rely on a certain habit or a certain norm, usually established by society and therefore, acts like them. Energy use, for example, could be changed in the case in which the conservation of energy could be seen as normative. Theories from economy and management also bring up the psychological effect of different messages: show a person the comparison between her/his use and the one of a neighbour, who is more ecologically aware. Morally speaking, that person might try to obtain the same result, in order to be a part of a certain group. Information regarding recycling could also be viewed as being useful, since showing how easy it is and how important it is has an impact on human beings.

People should think about how important their relationship with nature and realise that what they do actually has an impact, since most people are afraid. Because their well-being might become different if they go nature-pro, that they might not “fit it” or that their nature behavior might be useless. The interdependence of the social and environmental should undergo a strong re-thinking. Exposure to the nature have a positive effect on people, depending on certain problems they suffer from, environmental threats are of an impact to human beings, the toxins provided by the environment are damaging and nature brings a certain difference to social interactions. My world in 2050 will be different, because these elements have started to be realized from this point, in 2016. What the future will bring will probably be better for both humans and nature, in regards to their ties.
